Portrait (a copy)

Smalti on painted board. This mosaic was inspired by a painting made by my daughter, Anna, when she was two years old. The challenge for me was to render the spontaneity, delight and energy of a child's painting, the overlay of colors, the thickness of pooling paint and the dry brush marks in the sharp-edged medium of glass smalti. I like the result as well as the irony of transforming a "throw-away" child's artwork into a medium that is permanent. (Please note: This mosaic is currently on exhibit in Chicago through mid March and so I'm unable to take a photo of the hardware on the reverse. I include instead an image of another mosaic to give you an idea of how I attach wiring. I hope this suffices. Thank. you.)
