How Desolate the Landscape

How Desolate the Landscape, 2-D Mosaic
How Desolate the Landscape
The title comes from a poem by Naomi Shihab Nye called "Kindness".
Like so many, while I am aggrieved by the continued imprisonment of hostages and the death of innocent Israelis, I'm also in anguish over the death toll in Gaza, and the way it now lies in ruins. This mother and her child--can we see ourselves in her? Can we hear the destruction going on around them? The mirror on the right hand side and the bottom are meant for us to imagine ourselves there, and recognize our role in the conflict. Other materials include vitreous glass and ceramic tile and broken dishes.
