Weavers
This sculpture was Inspired by the weaver bird nests I saw on a recent trip to Africa. I loved the way the birds live together harmoniously in communal nests. I melted together bits of glass the color of the marshes and hand pulled threads that I cut to make the surface of the sculpture. Hand made bark paper and encaustic wax captures the feeling of the grass used in the construction of the nest. I carved polystyrene foam as the substrate, applied plaster gauze for strength, and then covered it in the paper and wax. The nest sits on a granite base. the weaver bird is made from paper clay.
